At Comfort Chefs, every meal is home-cooked, frozen at its freshest, and delivered to your door still frozen through The Frozen Food Courier’s R638-compliant cold chain. Most of our meals are made to go straight from the freezer to the heat — no thawing needed. This short guide shows you how to reheat your meal so it’s both safe to eat and tastes exactly as it should.
First, check your container
Before microwaving, take a quick look at the container or label to see whether it’s microwave-safe. Most of our meals come in microwave-safe containers — but some, like our pies, don’t, and are best reheated in the oven. That quick check saves you a melted lid or a soggy crust.
Reheating from frozen
You can take most meals straight from the freezer to the heat. Pick the method that suits the dish:
- Microwave (for microwave-safe containers): remove the plastic covering, heat on high for 3–5 minutes, stir halfway through for even warming, then let it stand 1–2 minutes before serving.
- Oven (best for pies, pizzas and pastry dishes): preheat to 180 °C, transfer to an oven-safe dish if needed, cover with foil to stop it drying out, and bake for 20–30 minutes.
- Stovetop (great for stews, curries and soups): empty into a pot and warm gently, stirring, until heated through.
Whatever method you use, your meal should be piping hot all the way through before serving — not just warm on the outside.
If you’d rather thaw first
Some people prefer to thaw a meal before reheating. That’s fine, as long as you do it safely:
- Thaw in the fridge — never on the counter at room temperature.
- Once thawed, keep it in the fridge and eat it within 24 hours.
- Don’t refreeze a meal once it has defrosted.
Storing your meals
Pop your order into the freezer as soon as it arrives, and keep it frozen until you’re ready to eat. Frozen and unopened, each meal stays good right up to the best-before date on the label.
Follow these few steps and your Comfort Chefs meal will be every bit as good as the day it left our kitchen — warm, hearty and ready to enjoy.
